dad or murder?

This one reminds me of my dad for some reason.  I think it's the hair, except my dad's hair was curly and not at all coarse or spiky.  Also, my dad only had one eye and it wasn't in the habit of bleeding profusely.  So maybe this isn't my dad.  Maybe it's the partially decomposed corpse of the guy I killed back in April.  I think I like the sound of that the best.

Tired ramblings aside, this is my latest greatest effort with my brush markers.  I do love using messy, impulsive technique.  Very fun and satisfying.  Hey, thanks for stopping by and have a good weekend!

you and me and the OPG

One of the many things I learned from my father is this:  If you want to get something done you start by promising that you'll do it.  Then you stagger out into the garage, drink some more and pass out, sitting in front of the wood burning stove.  Mission accomplished.

Having grown up in that kind of inspirational environment it's not hard to see why I started planning my Octoberween-Palooza-Ganza in December.  As I am unaccustomed to actually accomplishing goals I figure the earlier I start, the better.  If I accomplish only one thing this year, it's going to be my OPG.

So far, I've just let my mind wander on the subject, waiting to see what occurs to me.  One of the thoughts that keeps floating around in my brain is the idea of original art giveaways.  Specifically, something like this:

(ADULT CONTENT BELOW)

Actual size 5.5" x 7.5" on 90lb. watercolor paper and more detailed than what the scan shows.

Behold the power of my fine-tip Japanese markers!  I also used a red Sharpie and some red watercolor paint for that added zing.  To get to the point, would you guys actually want something like this?

I'm thinking I might've hit upon something kinda neat but it never hurts to get some feedback.  Anyway, gimme a shout when you have a minute.  Thanks.

manimal cyborg dad

Here's some more of my drawing backstory from high school.  Strong dad influences in this one (and, for some reason, a dash of Marlon Brando).  Also some beastman type stuff going on in there, probably from watching too many episodes of Manimal.

Anyway, my dad got one of his eyes shot out with a bee-bee gun as a kid.  He apparently had a glass eye for a while when he was younger but by the time I knew him he was sporting an eye patch.  That combined with his dark, curly hair gave him a decidedly pirate look.  Thinking about it now, he would've looked much more awesome if he'd had a semi-translucent plate riveted over his bad eye, as pictured above.  Would've given him a much cooler, cyborg, road warrior look.

dad, now in color!

Here's my latest.  It combines two of my favorite things:  Sharpie markers and computer image editing.  I tried to just go nuts with the color, but staying with my first instincts.  You gotta start somewhere.

As for the content, I'm guessing my dad is an influence, considering the one eye and the jagged, yellow teeth.  That's all I've got.  This is too fresh for me to know much else about it.  Thanks for stopping by.

dad, KISS and childhood

More high school stuff.  I'm not sure if this one is a self-portrait.  It's definitely not all me.  My dad is in there (note the one good eye) along with some KISS makeup.  I was a really into KISS as a child.  Ran around with the makeup on and two belts crisscrossed on my bare chest.  Even had the KISS colorforms set!  Man, those were the days.
